Employer Brand & Talent Acquisition: Why It’s More Important Than You Think
After so much upheaval and uncertainty, jobseekers are evaluating opportunities with a different lens than before. They are looking for stability in a time of chaos. In this blog we explore how the strength and stability of an organization’s brand is the most opportune strategy to communicate you are committed to fulfilling their career and life goals.
2020 turned everything on its head. Staffing and recruiting was, by no means, exempt from the shake-up. After so much upheaval and uncertainty, jobseekers are evaluating opportunities with a different lens than before. Their needs have shifted. They are looking for stability in a time of chaos. They’re looking for a brand that aligns with their core values.
How did your company weather the pandemic?
Recently, we were discussing with our candidates what they were looking for in their future organization. By far the most common question they had for their prospective employers was how the company handled their team during the pandemic? Were they well cared for? Did they have to furlough staff? Were furloughed staff supported?
We found many employees were more likely to consider applying to a company that was able to demonstrate some degree of being pandemic proof. Any organization, in their view, that could weather the past year had a bright future.
Diversity and inclusion: does your workplace model what you’re selling?
These days, you hear a lot from companies eager to highlight their programs to encourage diversity and inclusion in the workplace. But often, the staff photos in the “About Us” tab don’t look anything like what they’re selling. This creates a broken narrative that many candidates are seeing through.
We see a lot of candidates who are very excited to contribute to a workplace that reflects their claims to diversity and inclusion. This extends beyond just staffing and recruiting. We found this is particularly important for our consumer brands – that their workforce reflects the diversity of its customer base – to have a team that is relatable to their clientele helps to establish confidence and credibility.
Does your company value a diverse workplace, and truly stand by its message? Or is diversity just a soundbite?
For career-oriented candidates, sustainability matters
We’re happy to report, our clients with a legitimate message of sustainability are getting a high level of attraction. These days, employer sustainability means more than rapid growth. It can range anywhere from fostering mental health, or a work/life balance.
As recruiters, we’re finding great success in placing candidates who are looking for an organization that models truly sustainable behaviors.
